Going carbon neutral with Simplizero Ecommerce

Congrats on taking a step further to carbon neutrality! Here is a guide on how to communicate product carbon offsetting with Simplizero Ecommerce by Green Story.

What is your brand’s mission and climate goal?

Brand to insert personalised statement surrounding mission statement and how carbon offsetting aligns

How is the issue of climate change being tackled?

In order to understand what a carbon offset is, it’s important to first know a little more about greenhouse gas emissions. Greenhouse gas emissions are one of the largest contributors to climate change and global warming. Named after their effect on the environment, greenhouse gas emissions work to keep heat in the atmosphere, keeping the planet warm enough for us to all live on.

But, the greenhouse gasses resulting from human activities like burning fossil fuels, clear cutting forests, and intensive animal farming are rising quicker than the planet can naturally regulate, resulting in climate changes that we can’t deny. As a brand, as a global community and as industry, we’re in a race to reduce emissions.

As a sustainable fashion brand, we already use sustainable fabrics and employ sustainable manufacturing practices to significantly reduce our CO2 emissions. But it’ll take some time to reduce our emissions all the way to net zero, and there are still emissions that are unavoidable from our production.

This is where carbon offset projects come in. Buying carbon offset certificates helps support projects that sequester, and in some cases avoid altogether, future emissions. For example, the carbon offset certificate may help to fund a renewable energy project, which offers a reduced carbon footprint compared to conventional energy sources (coal, hydro-dam, oil, etc).

Social carbon offset projects work with local communities in developing countries who may not have the resources, or knowledge needed, to start a project on their own. Carbon offset projects connect those communities to larger project developers. Some benefits of these projects include an influx of new jobs and in some cases, safer and more sustainable energy sources.

Carbon offset credits are purchased from these projects, in equal quantity to the unavoidable emissions. This action provides crucial funding for these projects to continue to thrive while making our brand or products carbon neutral.

We want you to be part of our carbon neutral journey.

Brand to insert excitement about the carbon neutral journey ahead, “we’re all in this together”. Encourage sharing with social networks about the impact you’re making together!

Thanks to Simplizero Ecommerce by Green Story, you can now experience our carbon neutral journey across your entire shopping experience. Every carbon neutral product can be identified by a ‘carbon neutral’ visual on the product page. Click on the visual to see the exact amount of carbon offset for that product and explore the projects we invest in.

Every purchase confirmation email has a ‘Carbon Neutral’ button so that you can click and learn more about your carbon neutral order and the communities you’ve supported through the offset projects. We’ll also send you an official Carbon offset certificate from our partner, SimpliZero with a unique transaction ID to ensure the validity of the offset.

How do we select offset Projects?

We worked with the Green Story team to calculate the CO2 emissions from each stage of our supply chain. This enabled us to measure our carbon footprint for each product and find the best suited carbon offset projects.

Our approach to carbon neutrality is to offset our carbon footprint along our supply chain and have a mix of Reforestation, Renewable Energy and Community projects. We worked with Green Story to handpick projects based on their type, location, and benefits. Each project supports multiple UN sustainable development goals in addition to offsetting CO2. All our projects are rigorously verified and certified through The Gold Standard, Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) and Climate Action Reserve, Verified Carbon Standard (VCS), American Carbon Registry. These independent verifiers make sure that the projects are working to deliver the benefits they promise.

What are the offset projects we support?

It’s no coincidence that these projects are creating meaningful impact throughout the communities that our supply chain touches. See where we’re contributing below:

This project takes degraded land owned by small scale and poor farmers and supports soil restoration and replanting with trees to increase forest cover, resulting in carbon sequestration.

  • Solar Power Project, India

A solar energy project in Rajasthan that generates clean and renewable electricity. It is composed of 3 power plants, with a total installed capacity of 400MW.

This project is a waste-to-energy anaerobic digestion plant which converts chicken litter into renewable energy sources. The project activity mitigates environmental and hygienic problems as well as supports regional smallholders to implement sustainable agriculture.
