About Vitamin A

Founded in 2000 by California native Amahlia Stevens, Vitamin A are leaders in sustainable swim and effortless essentials. Their signature EcoLux fabric is the first premium swim fabric made from recycled nylon fibers. Furthermore, Vitamin A has incorporated several more sustainable high-performance fabrics along with eco-conscious textiles like organic cotton, linen, recycled cotton and Tencel®. All materials are certified to meet the global Oeko-Tex standard for safe textiles. Vitamin A bikinis, bodysuits and beachwear are designed and made locally in California to reduce their emissions for shipping and transporting raw materials.

The need

Vitamin A needed help to audit their materials and supply chain over the last 10 years, and understand and accurately measure the environmental impact of their products. They were also seeking support for how to best communicate their sustainability efforts to their audience throughout the customer lifecycle, in a way that was easy to understand.

The solution

Vitamin A partnered with Green Story to measure the environmental impact of their products using Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methodology for supply chains. After a robust analysis was conducted and the environmental savings quantified, Green Story’s Know your Impact, a visualization system consisting of interactive data and impact visuals, supported the communication of their positive impact in a clear manner.

The widget was strategically placed along their customer’s purchase journey for a more consistent and engaging sustainability storytelling: from home page and product page to social media and post-purchase emails.

The process

Green Story’s onboarding and research team worked with Vitamin A’s product team to map out the materials, supply chains and suppliers that lead to the creation of Vitamin A’s unique swimwear products.

The team identified key points and players in the supply chain and created questionnaires to gather the required data for modeling the product impacts. The data collected from suppliers was vetted, verified and augmented with secondary research from accredited 3rd parties.

Green Story’s experts carefully modeled this data to showcase the full environmental footprint of each product of Vitamin A’s supply chains.

Green Story modeled and provided comparisons which showed how each product’s environmental footprint differed from the average comparable product.

The comparative impacts of each of these individual products in the online shop was then mapped by the Green Story team with Vitamin A. The visualization of these impacts was seamlessly integrated via Green Story APIs and plug-ins into Vitamin A’s online shop.

Green Story also provides Vitamin A with ongoing support for assessing supply chain impacts, finding and tracking offsetting projects and other support as needed.
