The Highlight Reel

What a week it was! June 3rd to June 7th was the Sustainable Brands Conference in Vancouver, Canada. In terms of sheer energy, connections and ideas, it was one of the best conferences we have been to. In such a packed conference, it was hard to pick out the highlights, but we have a few below for you:

1. Offsetting at Our Booth!

Wedged between the massive Repreve truck and Looptworks, we went a bit rogue this year. Instead of offering up the usual swag, we went anti-swag, offsetting 10 kgs for each signup to our newsletter Green Stories.

You can still sign up for our newsletter and we’ll donate 10kg of carbon offsets in your name! Sign up here!

The program was so successful, we’re extending it for the rest of the year with the goal of offsetting 10 tons this year. While the offsets were popular, our visitors were quite excited to play with our interactive displays and check out our widgets and client products.

2. The Location

Kudos to the Sustainable Brands team for picking out a great location at the Vancouver Convention Centre. This green venue is an excellent, and central location, with great views. The only issue was…constantly wanting to step outside, watch the seaplanes and check out some of the incredible food options downtown! (I suppose those actually aren’t complaints.)

3. Fireside Chats

We hosted a total of 8 Fireside Chats on topics varying from Intro to LCAs to Data Driven Impact Marketing. Our fireside chats (yes, we had a wood fire “burning” on the screen) definitely demonstrated that attendees at #SBVancouver2018 were more than willing to learn and trade knowledge. Each chat was well attended and the demand for more was clear!

We can’t wait to host more of these chats (perhaps online) over the next year…complete with virtual fireplace, of course.

4. Sustainable Brands Screens

During May we worked with the Sustainable Brands team to develop an interactive version of their sustainability report. We used our “Story” interactive framework to put the details in place. We loved the excitement it generated at Sustainable Brands’ and our own booth. We’re developing the “Story” framework for sustainability communications and impact marketing with our other partners over the next few months. Stay tuned from some exciting launches coming up!

5. SB Innovation Open

We were in the semi-finals of the prestigious Sustainable Brands Innovation Open this year! Although we didn’t win the big prize, it was great to share the stage and ideas with some true global innovators.

6. CBSR Party

Hats off the Leor Rothchild and the CBSR team for organizing a fantastic party for their #DoBusinessLikeACanadian campaign. The message clearly resonated with the broader SB community as they had a packed house. We had some amazing conversations with companies ranging from EY to LuluLemon.

7. REI Events

It’s great to see larger retailers taking a stand on sustainability. Following their well received #OptOutside campaign for Black Friday, REI is pushing the envelope by instituting sustainable sourcing requirements. Their presentation on the topic was packed. Standing room only (and some sitting on the floor)!

8. Our Video Debut

We debuted our video at Sustainable Brands! Attendees loved the fun and animated video put together by the excellent team at Keyring Media. If you haven’t already, check it out here.

9. Neurology Study Event

No surprise to us but the say-do gap of conscious consumerism was a big topic at the event. Companies are well aware that consumers aren’t following through on their promises to buy green. The research provided by Cloud Army, Ipsos, Merchant Mechanics and Adaptation Research showed a lot of ways where companies can get through it. What were the top solutions?  Saliency (ahem, DATA), snappy visuals and immediate feedback. All three of which are provided via the Green Story platform…Coincidence? We think not!

Overall, there were many other events like chats about the shift framework, chance meetings, cycling for a smoothie, and the Clif Bar Hikes that made the conference great.

Thank you Sustainable Brands Vancouver for an amazing conference! We can’t wait to see you in Detroit next year!
